What's 7 days away, in New York, and fabulous? Mercedes Benz Fashion Week of course! For some, Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, etc. are the most anticipated events of the year. Not for this girl.
Not only does MBFW come twice (!) a year (September & February), but it is responsible for what I dress myself in, swoon over in magazines and blogs, and write about on here. Sure the designers that show at MBFW are high-end and a real drain on the bank account, but the event is geared towards industry (designers, buyers, advertisers, etc.) and inspiring, which means that every spec of clothing that graces those runaways has an influence on what everyone buys, no matter the store. The week is jammed packed with shows & parties, and trying to keep up is not for the faint of heart.
Over the next 7 days, I will post an "all-you-need-to-know" guide to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2011.
{Part One: The Basics}
What: Mercedes Benz Fashion Week-Fall 2011
It may seem confusing, but the upcoming shows are for Fall 2011 fashion. Although it is February, and Fall is many months away, the shows need to be forward looking to give the magazines, advertisers, and mass retailers time to do their thing for when Fall actually does arrive. Think of MBFW as a sneak peek of what's to come.
When: 02.10.2011-02.17.2011
Reader's Digest Version: More snow is on the way! Fashionable coats & shoes required.
Where: Lincoln Center
FW used to be held in gigantic white tents in Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan. While the setting was beautiful, the increased demand for access to the shows at FW meant the producers needed to move to bigger and better (not better, just different) turf. The Lincoln Center has more than enough room to house the world's fashion fanatics and influencers, but I'll admit the event lost some charm moving from a park to a concrete building.
